From a window 50m up, you see a car which makes an angle of 30° with the building wall.

How far is it from the building?

Draw a sketch...
Then look at what you have and what you need...
HAVE: angle, adjacent side "y"
NEED: opposite side "x"
Since tanq=opp/adj, we have tan30=x/50, so x = 50*tan30 = 28.9m

How far are you from the car?

This time we are asked for h.
We can do this a couple ways...
OPTION 1: Use cos30=50/h, so h= 50/cos30 = 57.77m

OPTION 2: Use our first answer & given side to get hypotenuse...
                  28.9² + 50² = c²,  so c= sqrt(3335) = 57.75m
